Ok, this is stupid and I can't get it back to rights again.
I wanted to download some psptubes and my downloadapp didn't recognize the extension, so Iexplore handled them. And I got the question over and over again if I wanted to open or save. So I clicked "don't ask for this type of file anymore", expecting them to download easily. But off course with Windows you should be more carefull ...
Now everytime I click a psptube on the website it opens Paintshop Pro and no way I can download the file anymore (and off course it's a website that doesn't allow rightclick, so I can't choose 'save as').

Now how do I put this back to rights again?

Thanks!
Sarah.

Can you change it in Default Programs > Associate a file type.....?

Nope, that's not it. It is associated to the right program (paintshop pro), but I want to download them, not open them.
It has to do with Iexplore and it's settings, but I can't find it .... :(

I have a feeling it might be easy to solve it if the website would allow rightclick (selecting an option or something), but they don't and I can't upload psptubes on my own site.
(Why they didn't put them in zipfiles is beyond me anyway .....)

Ha you're back :)
I've uploaded a psptube to another website I have, but it doesn't help me - I can download it now with my downloadmanager, but can't get it put back to rights in IE. Silly. Just plain silly ...

You could try setting IE7 back to default. Don't know if that would work for sure 'tho!
If you can hang on a bit, I will try it for you.

I searched the registry for psptube and found this:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSavePidlMRU\psptube]

Deleted it and now (weird enough) psptubes get downloaded directly by my downloadmanager.
Which is fine by me (very fine actually LOL).

Edit - he is very slow about it though - I'll see what I can do about that ...

Second edit: I restarted and now they get opened by IE again. What is that in Vista???
I change something, it works and after a restart it is back again.
And then you do it three more times and all of a sudden it does take on ...

Oh well, lets just hope it does take on after three more tries.

Brilliant, I was trying some stuff with IE7 (I hate it). FF does what I tell it to do!
ps. I forgot you knew how to work the registry.

Try this:
1. Download and run FileTypesMan.
2. Double click on the file type in the list.
3. Uncheck "Open this file type immediately after download, without confirmation".
4. Click Ok.
5. Close FileTypesMan.

Ok- I hadn't made any major changes and I had recently made a systemrestore point, so I thought I'll give that a try. And yes, it's back to normal.
But when you run systemrestore it says it doesn't affect your files.
Well, my *** !!!!!
I had all files from a week ago back in My Documents and what I had put there today (an enormeous lot!) is all gone !!!!!
Thank god I'm a backup freak and I have a backup of all files on my external harddrive (I think that's all of them anyway ... LOL) so I'm safe, but I think this is typical Microsoft - never ever trust Microsoft to be really really true to it's word ...

The system restore doesn't actually delete your personal files. But in this (bizarre) instance, it may have deleted the access to them. A file recovery program may very well work (ie Recuva). If you have to install a file recovery program, it may overwrite some of your lost files. But it's worth a try.

Ah, just reread your last bit. so all is good.

Sarah, You really have learned your lesson regarding back-ups. I remember when you came on the Forum and we had to ease you into this. But you seem to be one of those that likes to putter with the system - so back-ups are essential. But I don't know from where you have this saga concerning the files. The restore points (shadows) contain the system AND user files. What you can do is force a restore point (let's call it X) just before you do the actual restore from Y. And after you did the restore from Y, get your current files back from X - or at least those that were modified during the time between Y and X. The file recovery is easy with Shadow Explorer - and you can use the tutorial I once made as Guideline -- But down the road you might want to look into Norton Ghost http://diddledog.com/newsletter/?p=71 - that is the Ultimate.
