I want to share a external drive (USB) with my XP laptop and my Mac so I do not have to unplug\plug in each and every time...
1. I am unable to find a Y cable at the stores in my area for this
2. I do not know it their would be a conflict by doing such a thing
Any ideas ?

You can't do that, it's simply not possible.

What you need to do is share the drive in either XP or the Mac and map a drive from one to the other.

Thanks. Later on I went to get a Y cable and talked to a tech, said same thing you did. Thank you for the post.

One thing you could do (this is how I have mine setup) is keep the drive connected to one computer full time, and network-share it with the other computer.
