I recently installed a new game on my desktop, Train Simulator 2012 but am now having major problems when I try to run the game. After a few minutes my desktop makes a loud buzz the monitor goes blank and the computer restarts. I have checked the event viewer and have discovered the following error messages. In the system log there is the following error message:
Component: AMD Northbridge
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Hyper Transport Watchdog Timeout Error.
In the application log there is the following error message:
Possible memory leak. Application(c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe-k.

My system runs the following: CPU AMD PhenomII Quad core 3.4GHZ, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon 4850 graphics card. Any ideas welcome.

I have actually tried completely wiping and reloading windows but the same thing happens each time. The simulator is the only program loaded onto the computer at present so I thought my system was more than capable of running it. I will try loading and running another simulator that I have and see if the same thing happens.

Just another question when the train simulator loads it automatically installs NVidia Phyx. Would this cause problems as my graphics card is an ATI card.

According the system requirements for the TS 2012, it only says it is recommended to install a graphics card but does not specify the card brand. If Nvidia PhysX is loading then this game is not compatible with ATI Card. Nvidia PhysX will work only with Nvidia GPU's. You may look at this for further information.

Your graphics card might not be compatible leading to your PC turning off.

1. Make sure you have the latest driver installed for the HD4850 card. (Visit AMD support site)

2. Start the game, lower the visual (graphics) settings, and try playing it for a while

3. Use a program like HWMonitor on your PC to see if it's overheating (note Temps.) in general and while you run the game. Also note the Voltages shown, as your PSU could be inadequate too.

Work with these tips and you should be able to identify the problem.

Hi All

Just an update about this problem. I have carried out the recommendations of the previous post. My PSU is a 750W power supply. I have run the game for about 20 mins without any crashes so far. My readings are as follows:-
Prior to running game - PSU core voltage - 0.99V
CPU temp - 32 degrees
Graphics card voltage - 1.16V

After running game - PSU core voltage - 1.38V
CPU temp - 49 degrees
Graphics card voltage- 1.16
I also have the most recent driver installed for my graphics card. Any further views welcome.

Hi Again

Just after my previous post the dreaded crash happened again. The same message in the event log. Do any of the above readings appear high to anyone. I just can't seem to pinpoint what is causing this problem. Any further views welcome.

In Services, there is a Service Named [ AMD External Events Utility ]

DISABLE the Service.

Reboot.

Post back what happens next time you run Simulation.

Hi Rick

Found this serviced and disabled it and rebooted. Ran simulation which again lasted for about 20mins before repeating this error. Is there any hardware issues such as bad memory sticks or sockets which might need looked into using memtest.

May be should Download Prime 95 and run torture test on system.

Both 32 and 64 Bit Versions are available here.

@Rick, Since all is well except running the simulator, see 4th post above, could that still be the problem?

@warlock,

Don't know what problem could be ??

May be (1) core in CPU has a problem while under stress which doesn't show up in normal operations.

I'm just guessing at this point in time.
