Hi,

OS: Win2k3. Of late our server has been freezing. The staff have got into the habit of powering down with a hard kill and restarting it. How can I know when the computer froze and when it was restarted.

Thanks,

I have done this in the past (30 odd years go). So cannot remember exactly.
I think I made a batch file that ran on startup, and each time, appended the date & time to a text file.
It would not give you the computer "freeze" time 'tho.

The Event Viewer should have a log of power interrupt events. That would tell you that the staff threw the power switch when they didn't need to. A freeze caused by an application or system error should be logged in the Event Viewer as well, which also might help you get to the bottom of what it is that is causing the freeze.

For uptime, the Task Manager in Vista on the Performance tab has this number. I would expect Win2k3 to be the same.
