While downloading a programe the other day (realplayer alternative..hooray!) something called sprtvs.exe tried to install itself along with said programe.( i hope it wasnt part of it! ) I only knew this because comodo alerted me. I denied it, of course. Avg, spybot etc (which i use) supply daily updates to download to guard against this kind of stuff-so why was it not blocked silently by these programmes? and comodo..does this have any kind of virus database ? It seems to me that avg and spybot are good at finding and removing mal/spy, but not great at preventing it.

(4 posts)Spybot only watches over your registry. If malware wanted to make a modification to your registry, spybot would catch it and alert you. In fact it should alert you of any registry change. Else, it is for scanning.
AVG is supposed to work like a security suite. I.e. prevent intrusions. But the free version is so,so. If you want good protection, you'll have to buy a full version (AVG or other).
Commodo I don't really know - just the name.
