My COMPAQ laptop with Windows XP home edition, has somehow changed the command it runs when I click on a folder. Instead of opening the folder it wants to do a search. I noticed that if I right click a folder the popup dialog box appears with the SEARCH command checked instead of the OPEN command. How do I correct this so that the folder opens when I click on it.

Thanks
Ron

first i must ask if you have any extra search help type programs.

if not you my have search companion problems. try this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186

remember to back up you registry before doing any modifications so that if it does not work you can go back to the original settings.

Thanks syn:

I have read the article and it seems to address my problem. It mentions the problem can occur with XP Home Edition and XP Pro. I am sure the problem is a results of something I did, but I don't know what.
My desktop HP with XP Pro. is all right. I will try to fix the Laptop according to the article and report back.
Thanks
Ron
