Re: Nov 2 post on topic title.

I have found it useful to create a
desktop icon link to Local Area Connection Status.
(Among other uses, it allows me to disconnect my DSL line before program installation,
without having to switch off the modem; reconnecting is much cleaner as well).

Upon right-clicking this icon, a pop-up menu appears (at least in Win XP...not familiar with Vista or 7).

I then left-click

Status--Support -- Repair

By doing this, I believe I am clearing the DNS cache while accomplishing other useful maintenance (as quickly listed after clicking Repair) in seconds. Seems faster than what you recommend -- but am I missing something?

I defer to your superior knowledge and await your reply.

Yes, the Repair usually clears the DNS cache. It's also an excellent tool.
