Hi.
I just read an article here about Stereomix not working on pc here :http://www.howtogeek.com/?post_type=post&p=39532
My stereo mix doesn't work either.
after numerous attempts on installing audiodrivers for the Realtek onboard sound card i've come to the conclusion
that it may be my Chipset drivers there's the problem.
I did a clean install of win 7 and let i update entirely from winupdate after that it didn't work.
Qestion:
How do i reinstall the old chipset drivers from asus. Do i uninstall first or does it overwrite.

The pc is a Asus k50ie

Welcome to HTG.

Need to install ALL Device Drivers for the machine right after the Clean Install before doing updates.

Be sure to select the correct O/S from the menu drop down box.

Also insure your Bios Revision is the latest.

If you have already Clean Installed, go a head and download plus try to install ALL drivers from Asus.

Hi Rick.
I allready have installed all the updates from win update about 180.
But is it possible to install the chipsset drivers as it is right now.
It wasn't quite right what i said about clean Win7 install, it was an image
From the factory bundled with the pc.
I am certain that i've been able to record via stereo mix before using audacity.

If it was a factory install you probably have the original drivers. Windows Update seldom updates drivers. They are usually optional.

Yes. But do i need to uninstall the ones in the pc before install of the new? Is there anything i need

You definitely need to check for the Latest Bios update.

Asus used different components for the machine during the manufacturing run so there are different drivers for say the camera.

***Have to know exactly what components are in your machine.

As for the Chipset Driver, you can install the Latest one from Asus.

Also the Latest Realtek Audio Diver from Asus.

Install the latest drivers WITHOUT uninstalling old ones.

You do not have to uninstall old drivers first. If it were I I would take an image backup before doing any thing major. Macrium Reflect is what I use.

Regarding the bios, i have never messed with that before
Is that so nessesary to update that, just update the chipsset drivers.

YES it is a MUST to Update the Bios because it fixes design flaws in the original hardware / software interactions.

Download and read your machine manual which will give you instructions on how to update the Bios.

Asus is well known for Bios / Firmware Updates; that's why some folks prefer Asus over other brand products.

All you need to do is upgrade to the LATEST Bios revision as each new revision includes all the previous revisions.

You should be running the machine with BIOS 218 Firmware 2011.03.02 update.

Hi again.
I updated both bios and chipset drivers, it went very good. I also updated to
The latest realtek drivers....... But i can still not record anything.
On the laptop i use the mic sound in port. I set the stereomix as default and deaktivate
The mic. Then i use audacity and sellect the stereomix as recording unit.....no sound.
When i plug in the audio cable from the sound source into the pc it doesn't say if its a
Line in or what ever.

Hesitant to respond.

The HTG Howto says use XP drivers.

Asus has XP2 drivers but must install MS UAA Hotfix first.

Realtek console has ability to NOT combine (Un-Tie ) all inputs.

You show input in audacity to Realtek HD device.

Research on net reveals Asus Exact Audio Problems just as you have.

Don't know what to advise as there are so many variables. :( :(

We need advice from a Member with a machine exactly like yours.

sadly the Microsoft fix it didn't find any problems :-(

I don'tthink i quite understand what you mean with the xp drivers... should i install them instead?.

Thank all of you guys.
I'm affraid that it isn't possible on this laptop to record this way.
I called the Asus hotline- they said it wasn't possible.... I don't understand it.
But thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.

Sorry the HTG Howto won't work but glad you called Asus and received good straight forward information.

I think the little Asus machine is a good one and should serve you well for normal Laptop duties.

Remember to check the download site often for further machine updates.
