I inherited my wifes laptop ( she bought a better one) with windows 7 and cannot find a way to change her original stupid name she gave the laptop when we bought it. I know there is a way to do it using regedit but I dont remember. Can someone help.

Hi lucianb123 and welcome to HTG. You can change the computer name by going to Start>Computer. Right click on Computer and open Properties. You will see the computer name and a change settings category. Click on that and change the name from there.

I changed the computer name but the programs are locked by my daughter who was the original owner of the ccomputer

Hi mine and welcome :) If you can change the computer name, you obviously have the password. Try going to Control Panel>User Accounts and change the administrator account to your name. If that doesn't work, you should consult your daughter.
