Some versions of Vista (Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise) allow for the complete backup of your HD.
Do you have an external?

The bigger question and one I have asked The Geek to look into is whether the new HD must have Vista installed on it first, before you can copy the backup to it. I'm guessing yes.

hi scott, i have a 250gig external, and i want 2 put a 250gig inside my laptop cos i only have 100gig now and its not enuff and i dnt want 2 take the external with me all the time.. im using home premium, i know i can copy paste to my external as thats wat ive done before but i want to move the whole whole whole system to the new 250 gig internal, windows, programs, documents and everything else...then but the 250gig inside then restore it off the back up, and once that is done i boot up back in2 my windows and it works with now errors and wat wats.. then my hard drive has more space, happy me...

I defer to the Caspers among us. Ghosting is not my forte.

snugglez. If it's any consolation, in a few days time, I will be faced with the same dilemma as you!

There is a program called SelfImage to clone drives in the recovery disc you can create listed at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....covery-cd/
I haven't used it though so I don't know how well it works.
The last time I cloned a hard drive was a few years ago using the software that came with my Maxtor hard drive.
