Does anyone know how do do this?
There used to be a feature in XP where you could change which program a given file type is opened with and choose an icon for it. The option to choose the icon is no longer there in Vista (or any of the other more advanced settings for that matter) and file type icons are based on the program you associated them with. All the answers I have found on Google suggest additional software is needed but I know there must be a way to change it as many programs have custom icons for their different file types.
I have looked in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.filetype for anything that could be linking to the icon but can't find it.
Why Micro$oft decided to remove this feature is beyond me.
Thanks for any and all help,
Jon
