CDs wont play!
(19 posts)Feather, your system might still have the driver on it. Go to Device Manager, right click on the DVD drive and select "uninstall". Then restart your system. When Vista comes back up, it should show you a "new hardware found" wizard. If it finds the drivers, you should be back in business. If it doesn't find the drivers, you still need to hunt them up.
Here is something you may try. Open Regedit and do the following steps:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
open SYSTEM
open CurrentControlSet
open Class
open {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
erase “Upper Filters” (right click > erase > yes)
erase “Lower Filters” (same)
Restart the system immediately
Feather, what do you see in Device Manager now for the DVD drive? If you see the device or an "unknown" where it should be, see if you can right-click on it and select Properties. I want to see if there is an error message there that could lead us to a solution.
I checked at Acer Europe for your system and there are no DVD drivers there. This suggests that the drivers that are built-in to Vista will handle the DVD drive. Do you have Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Vista? Did you do any updates recently?
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
This is what it said in Properties. It is still there in Device Manager with a minus sign on it.I think my computer updates all the time?
Latest findings!!I went right back to when I downloaded the CD for my camera(Arcsoft Media Converter etc) and restored the registry before that.My CD Drive worked again . However,I could not play my videos!!
Re loaded the Arcsoft because I want to play my videos and now can´t play my CDs.Is there a way of doing both??
Feather, the CD that comes bundled with your digital camera, and many other computer peripherals, tends to install a lot of different software whether you need it or not. It certainly looks as if it installed something that conflicts with drivers for the CD/DVD drive. It may have been some CD/DVD interface software, such as an ASPI driver, that just confuses the system. Can you determine what software was installed by the disc that came with the camera? We might be able to determine which one is the culprit and remove it.
Otherwise, I'm going to advise you to uninstall that camera software. A software bundle that undermines the basic functionality of your system -- by disabling the built-in CD/DVD drive -- is software that cannot be trusted. It may be causing other problems that you just haven't run into yet. I checked on Werlisa's website for updated software -- nada. Once again, they are no help. Even if you can't use the software from the disc, we can get your videos to play back with the XviD software that I mentioned in the previous thread.
Hi Scott. The CD has five sections
Arcsoft Media Converter Arcsoft VideoImpression Ulead Photo Explorer Direct X Camera Driver. At first I installed all of them,Today I uninstalled them and tried Media Converter only. This stopped the CD Drive.I have just put Video Impression on and I can play the videos AND the CD?Is it OK to leave this as it is or do I need the other components for anything?
Thanks
Feather, my advice is not to install anymore software from that CD unless you find that you need it. If you can transfer pictures and images from the camera, playback the videos, and your CD/DVD drive still works then you have reached a good stopping point.
The software that is typically bundled with consumer electronics devices is usually a trial version or a version with reduced function. Should you need any tools similar to the ones on that CD, you can download them. There are free trial versions available on the Web and freeware programs that have similar function. You know that you can ask here if you need a recommendation.
