Hiya,
I bought a CD/DVD-RW driver at least 1 year ago, when I bought it. it twas working absolutely fine for me but now when I insert a blank CD/DVD it doesn't reads it, when I insert it the light of my driver blinks for a long time and then stops, when I go into My computer and click on the drive it doesn't reads it as a blank CD/DVD My Drive is a "Samsung Octoedge CD/DVD-RW" drive. My computer is Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 service pack 3.

And one more thing My drive is sometimes able to read a blank CD, but a DVD not at all !! but My drive is able to read CD's and DVD's which are not blank and have some data.

Plz help.. :)

Hi

Well the make is fine I have one well similar. I have had a similar problem but only very occasionally and in the end found it to be the disks not the machine CD and DVD can be very temperamental always get a branded good quality make not a cheap super market version. Hope this works if not suggest you consider replace if still under guarantee. Or not expensive these days don't even think about repair and it is not the rest of your computer it is only the disk drive for sure.

Regards

I would expect Sony DVDs to be fine!
Try a different one from the pack - could just be this one which is faulty

Hey I wanna ask ya something it is not that I'm revolting but the moserbaer blank CD's are considered to be the best CD's here in India, and the moserbaer CD's run absolutely fine in the computers of my friends. :?

Try your problem CD's on their machines. And some of theirs on your machine.
Also you may have a bad batch.

When you put a new CD in the drive, click on it, a little box pops up with a message in it ?

Put a new CD in. Right click on the drive, and select Format. Does that work ?

Yes all the other problems I posted in the thread "Computer behaving strangely" I am having with this computer, but the CD drive problem is from a lot before

In the other thread, try the repair first. If that does not work, you are looking at an OS re-install anyway.
