If you mean that you want to read a CD with your newly installed XP, then you have to install the driver for your optical drive in XP first (if it does exist for XP). Your posting is difficult to read, so I may have gathered the wrong problem. Proper English would help!!

Go to Device Manager and there into DVD/CD-ROM Devices (double click on that) and then double click on your device that shows up, press the "Driver Button" and say "Update Driver". You get to Device Manager by typing DEVICE into the start search box and then hit ENTER.

does your cd-rom/dvd-rom read other cd's or dvd's? or does this only happen for your XP installer?
