1. cleans cookies, history, temp files, registry... etc ... Yes it is free! If you download the lite version there is no Yahoo Toolbar to deal with.

2. I have never had an issue with an external HDD failing. However, I would assume a "Don't" would be power it on and off constantly as it add wear and tear to it.

ENGLISH,

CCleaner is a "handy" FREE utility which is used to cleanup Temp Files, Cookies, Cache Files and a few Gross Errors in the Machine Registry.

It can be configured several ways. Read the on-site instructions and the help file in CCleaner.

It will not harm your external drive.

Play with it a bit to see how it works.

No need to fear CCleaner as the members of this site don't recommend programs which could do harm to your machine and will always give you WARNINGS concerning programs that require Cautious use.

Of Note:

It is (NOT) an Anti-Virus nor an Anti-Spyware nor an Anti-Malware Program.

If you arwe afraid of the disk falling over, get one that lies flat like this one http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm.....tDetail.do

Note: I do not recommend this particular model. I just use it to illustrate the "flat case".

I see, and I thought of an upright one that you might have pushed over with the elbow or so. lol - but in your post I think it said "falling" - my eyes are not that bad. I guess I took that too literal.
