Can't update Windows Vista or IE

I am running Windows Vista with SP 1. At some point (over a year ago) something happened and my computer stopped automatically downloading and installing ALL Windows updates. It does download and install some updates. I can't install updates manually. Updates such as SP 2 won't install. I have IE 7 and can't install newer versions. I have run every kind of Virus software I can find to check for viruses. Everything is fine. I have installed and run Microsoft Fix it and Windows Update Agent. When I try to install SP 2 or a newer version of IE I receive a message that it couldn't install and has aborted installation. Can anyone help?

imgib hi. It won't. you need to get SP2.

Just make sure that your date and time settings is correct. It can cause the windows update to give you an error
