After going through the travesty that was the Vista Lauch at the start of last year I went back to XP after a few months. Now, I finally decided that the time was right to give Vista another try and now it won't install. It's very frustrating because I've tried it twice, and each time it gets right to the end on the 2 or 3 hour install, then just boots back into XP and says that Vista cannot be installed, and to check the upgrade advisor to see if my hardware is compatible. Well, I did check the upgrade advisor before I installed it the 2nd time and it said that my PC was definitely compatible. Plus, I know it's compatible because I installed the same version, which is Vista Business from MSDN, last year. I have replaced the PSU and the graphics card since then, but I don't see why that would be an issue. The advisor said there would be driver issues with my current Nvidia driver, as it is the XP and not the Vista one, but I uninstalled that before the 2nd try, and the soundcard driver as well.
I was doing the install over the current XP installation, because I wanted to keep all of my installed programs and my files intact. This is what I did last time and it worked fine. I won't bother installing if it is a case of doing a format and a clean install. Is there some kind of log anywhere that will tell me exactly why this isn't working?
