so here's the deal... Everytime i turn on my computer it shows me the "bootmgr is missing" Ctrl+alt+del to restart. i've tried "this" and it hasn't worked. i have Vistabootpro and BCDedit but im not sure what to do in either to help. i've also tried using system repair on my Vista CD and i've tried system restore. the best part is that my computer only boots up properly if the CD is in the tray but if it isnt...i get the infinite loop of bootmgr death. I dont know what else to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't fix "BOOTMGR is missing" probelm
(7 posts)@BobJam,
EXCELLENT POST TO A REFERENCE !!!!
Your reference is the technical explanation I was looking for concerning how Vista boots.
Have alluded to this question many times on the forum with very few definitive answers given by others.
It is IMPERATIVE to have this knowledge when trying to make Utilities so Vista and the coming Win7 O/S can be made usable.
Don't know how you find all this information BUT keep up the GOOD Postings !!!!
Best Regards,
Rick P.
Good stuff ....... for geeks. But for the rest of us, does it mean uncle Charlie has a job? I sort of blindly followed along the explanation and it seemd to be grammatically correct, but I must admit that it would not have helped me much if I had OP's problem. I would still have to depend on you guys to translate it into action.
@Spacegold,
Unfortunately there are no easy and quick learning solutions. :) :)
Most of us learned computers and programing on our own by doing.
In my day, EE was the closest major in college to what is now IT and a few courses in Fortran with a main frame is all you got.
(whs) was on the IBM team, I think, which sold and installed the 2nd main frame at my school.
Best Regards,
Rick P.
Hey Rick,
Glad the link was what you were looking for. Hope it helps the OP.
Have had it quite some time, having bookmarked it against the day that VISTA would be forced on me and I tried to either ininstall it or partition it.
Found it on the Wilders forum, didn't need it at the time, but I remember thinking to myself "I may need this someday."
