Try running the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner.

Edit. You may need this as well.

Try using FreeCommander. Remove any attributes, rename them, then delete them.

whs. I think the problem is the actual file names themselves. Windows does not recognize/accept that it is a valid name.

I had this a couple of months ago too, must be in one of my earlier posts. I'll take a look later on if you haven't solved it by then. But as I remember correctly Lighthouse offered the best remedy - FreeCommander.
You can change attributes by rightclicking on the folder and you can set read only and archive. Uncheck read only.

Probably one of the folders at the end of the tree has a name that is too long or has unacceptable characters in it. Use FreeCommander to browse to them and rename them. You probably can't rename them in Explorer, but Freecommander often does the trick.

Edit: Changing attributes is also best done in Freecommander if there is a problem with a foldername:)

Maybe, but e.g. in WinDirStat you can see it - which by the way may be another option to delete it, because WinDirStat has a Delete function.

Yes it worked i did it..just took forever to find the original files becuase whe ni was clicking windows.old for some strange reason all my files from the current C:\users folder were showing up. anyways the problem was that the 2 files in my second screenshot were not being recognised by windows but when i changed their names i was able to delete windows.old

thnx for everyones help
