Cannot connect to my router via lan, wlan connects without a problem!!
(27 posts)madmacs,
Have you (Enabled) the (2) LAN connections in the Bios Settings on the Asus MB ??
Have you installed the Asus MB Drivers for the LAN connections on the Asus MB ??
Have you set-up the router by the manual ??
If you are using a DSL telephone interface Modem along with the router, the Modem MUST be set-up as a (BRIDGE) and the Router set-up as PPOE with a different address than the Modem.
What is the Make and Model Number of your Router ??
What is the Make and Model Number of your DSL Modem if (NOT) using a (TV Cable Router / Modem Combo) ??
Please provide more info.
Since this is a Vista O/S question, maybe one of the Vista Members will jump-in.

madmacs,
Is this your router combo ??

It appears to be a cell phone type of router which I'm not that familiar with.
Most of my searches turn up German articles and unfortunately I can't read German.
Can you send me a link to where I can review the router specs ??
Maybe (whs) or (LH) can help us out on this one.
Kindest Regards,

Post back.
Ja, ja! Diese vorrichtung nur ist deutsch.
Like Rick P., I can only find info on this modem / router / wap / etc in German. It seems to have a lot of features all mixed in. I would suggest that you check your ISP's website to see if they have information, such as a manual. Or try Samsung DE, although I see no info from Samsung about modems.
Some things to check: use the router config menu to ensure it's connected to the Internet (seems obvious). Check that the router is enabled as a DHCP server (also seems to be working). Remove the wireless connection and verify that Vista is acting as a DHCP client, receiving a valid private address from the router and has a connection with no red X in Control Panel -> (Network and Internet) -> Network and Sharing Center.
Madmacs, I see a problem right away. Your router has setup a private LAN for connecting to. The IP address of the router itself is 192.168.220.1 which you can see is listed as the default gateway, DHCP and DNS server. If you look at the WLAN connection, it has the proper address for a member of this private LAN. The WLAN IP address is 192.168.220.100 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Notice that under DHCP Enabled it says "Yes". That means the WLAN is getting it's IP, subnet, and DNS info from the router, as it should.
Now, look at the Ethernet Adapter LAN-Verbindung 2. DHCP is not enabled ("No") for this connection, the IP address is not on the private LAN (169.254.76.253) and the subnet mask is wrong (255.255.0.0). The easiest way to get this working is to enable DHCP. In the Properties windows, select the TCP/IPv4, select properties, and change it to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" (or the German equivalent!). The connection should then be assigned an IP in the 192.168.220.x range and the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
Hi ScottW, well I did what you said..
and it still comes out like this (where can i turn this IPv4 autoconfiguatin?)
I´ve also tried putting everything in manually, still no luck, limited connection only!!

EDIT: I changed the router´s IP whilst waiting for an answer, and have switched to LAN1, still no luck. I could throw my PC out of the window, lol
Matt, hold off on the defenestration. Set the router back to it's original IP, 192.168.220.1, and let's try the static IP configuration again.
In the TCP/IPv4 Properties, select "Use the following IP address", and type in
IP Address: 192.168.220.10
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.220.1
Under "Use the following DNS servers", enter 192.168.220.1. Notice that the static IP address we are using ends in ".10" so it is outside the range of dynamic (DHCP) addresses used by the router which I see is between .100 - .200. After you make these changes, check to see if the static IP address has taken hold and report back. Good luck!
After selecting the option to "Obtain an IP address automatically" in the Internet Protocol v4 Properties you must do a "ipconfig /renew" without the quotes to get a new ip address. The address you received before (169.254.223.254) is a fallback address assigned by windows.
Matt, look at the Default Gateway -- it says 192.168.221.1. I think you made a small typo it should be 220, not 221.
In theory, Vista will reset the network when these changes are made, but the advice from SGTCableDog is worth trying because it might need a little push. I just tested it here and when I switched to DHCP and back the connection was automatically reset each time.
Matt, you aren't getting on my nerves. I'm over here rooting for you, hoping that the next change will finally fix this issue for you. It's dinner time here, so I will check back with you later.
Fenestra (=window) comes to us from Latin. So, de + fenestra = out of (the) window. :-)
It would appear that dhcp is failing. In a pervious screen shot it is enabled in the router but I wonder if it needs to reboot to take effect. It's been 18 years since my Deutchklasse but there appears a warning on page 37 of the manual. (Thanks bohica) Just as a precaution, make sure you are using a normal thru patch cable to connect the computer to the router and not a cross-over cable. You can verify this by looking closely at the colors of the conductors at the connectors. If you hold them side by side the colors should by the same left to right.
