Hi, I was wondering if you can boot from an external dvd drive. I have a dell mini 9 that I want to install Windows 7 on but it doesnt have a optical drive. I as wondering of an external optical disk drive would remedy that problem

I have done it before to recover files from a dead Windows machine with Puppy Linux.

That should work. You can also create a bootable flash drive on another machine: http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345

If it is USB, and you have that option in the BIOS, then yes.

Ya, LH is right. You best check first in the BIOS what your booting options are.

Just a question, if I want to boot from a flash drive, which drive would it be when you are reconfiguring it ie: "select drive 5"

No. Look in the BIOS. It will give options like Boot from, CD, Hardrive, USB, etc.
