Can this older XP system run a 24" monitor(7 posts)
It might not be able to support the native resolution, although who knows for sure without knowing how much memory the card has on it.
Otherwise it should work, the monitor has a VGA port on it, so it would just run a lower resolution maybe.
i don't mean to but in, i had trouble with two new graphics cards running a 24" wide screen @ 1920x1200. they both crashed. my wallpaper would black out and i'd get a pop up from the task bar stating that my graphics had shut down, send an error report, etc.
One would think that those Radeons could run a 24". In my system in question we are talking about an on-board GMA 900. But it should work because it can handle (as to the Intel documentation) 2049x1536 max. Nevertheless I will recommend to my friends to stick to 1680x1050 (22" without HD).
I don't know if this will help you, but my setup is:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (2.167GHz)
640MB RAM (with 128MB being used by GPU)
gForce 4 MX
I use a 22" Monitor at 1680x1050 with no problem whatsoever.
