My computer wouldn't let me choose the drive to install XP on when i boot from the disk, thus causing the install to fail. so i'm wondering if someone could make a program that will install xp onto the partition of my choice while vista is operating. i want the wizard to work on a 64-version of vista and the version of xp i have on disk is pro 32 bit.

PS
why hasn't anyone thought of this before.
honestly why doesn't Microsoft have this service available online, Steam installs games directly on to the computer so why can't Microsoft.com install an OS directly onto a partition. they could make even more money this way.

You have to create a new partition first.
see next post in forums for details.

I did create a partition. The installer on the xp disk did not recognize it or rather it didn't give the option of choosing a drive path before trying to install xp and then failed to do so.

What kind of media,(OEM, retail, HP provided restore) are you using to install?

I'm not sure what you mean but the comp came from hp with vista home premium 64 bit on it. It has some sort of raid bios. the xp instalation disk is pro 32 bit. it is not a restore disk as far as i know.

qtar1984, Microsoft has stopped making Windows XP. They would probably love to see it go away so they don't have to support it, but it is currently the most widely used OS on the planet! Anyone who created a utility for installing XP over (or in addition to) Vista would be in for a lot of headache. This forum is filled with posts from members who have all manner of different problems trying to do this. There is no silver bullet solution.

Since you have a RAID set, and probably SATA hard drives, you will need to make an F6 disk to load XP drivers for SATA and RAID at installation time.

If you don't have a floppy drive then you need to burn a Windows disc with the SATA drivers included. See http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....tallation/ for how.

The program in that article appears to be a make your own windows xp installation wizard wizard.

It might work but i need the time to use it.
