Maybe you want to download FoxitReader and make that your default .pdf reader. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

@Lighthouse: It appears whs is responding to the post by cdn4life to fix cdn4life's problem with Adobe Reader not installing.

@whs: If I am correct then I understand how you could have made the mistake. It took me a few times of reading all the posts on this topic to figure out it was a different problem that cdn4life was listing and not the problem the original poster listed.

@cdn4life: You should start a new topic as a problem a installing Adobe Reader is different then the problem this topic is for.

Post Note: Edited a few times for clarity.

Probably because Adobe is in the way. Remember, whenever you do anything with a .pdf file, Adobe immediatly grabs it and throws it on the screen. E.g. when I save a WORD 2007 document in .pdf, Adobe is there and displays it immediately - just because I saved it.

Just for reference I have downloaded the last version of Adobe 8.1.2.

dbos, Adobe is like a primadonna, very capricious.

@jd, I don't know what your post is supposed to mean. Read what I posted after your edited post and you'll see where I come from.

My point was there two problems in this thread.
Problem #1 with downloading PDFs was the original by dbos.
Problem #2 with installing Adobe Reader in post 5 by cdn4life.
I thought you were answering problem #2.
I now see that your first answer could apply to both problems.

raceway, love you. Foxit is an alternate PDF reader that is highly praised. I am not sure whether it will map Adobe exactly but it has more and easier to use functions. Can't hurt to try it. When you set Foxit as default, that does not mean Adobe will disappear from your system. It is still there and you can reset the default to Adobe any time. It is just that Adobe is so invasive and very often troublesome.

I wasn't complaining about it. I was attempting to reply to Lighthouse's post. I now see I may have been mistaken on the post. Reading all the posts on this thread again I'm still confused on what your problem is.
I think it maybe you are loading PDFs in Internet Explorer and they won't load.
It that case without more information then that I can't help fix that.
Some of the more information would be like does it not work for all PDFs or just a few, do the PDFs just not appear or does Internet Explorer crash, is there a progress bar saying it's trying to load the PDF that is stuck, etc.
You can use Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Reader to view PDF files in Internet Explorer.
Foxit Reader however will not replace Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional if that's what you have for things like writing to PDF files.
It also may not work for advanced Adobe Reader PDF functions like scripting or editable form fields.

@raceway25: Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player are different products. Foxit Reader is only an alternative for Adobe Reader. For crashes with Adobe Flash Player check the version you have installed at http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ and if you have version 8 or earlier you can update to version 9 at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave.....kwaveFlash
