Can I run win 7 froma One-Touch USB Drive

I have an 80gb One-Touch USB back up drive. I want to install windows 7 but don't want to kill my computer which is working fairly well right now. Can I install 7 on the USB backup drive and boot to it by changing instructions in Bios? This may have already been asked and answered, but I didn't find it...Thanks for your help. Right now I am running WinXP Pro.

Suggest you Clean Install Win 7 on the machine and leave XP for the past.

You might be able to run it in a Virtual Machine. What are your machine specs ?

Thanks so much for your answers...I am just afraid to take the leap and do a clean install without Xp to fall back on...I'll continue thinking about it. Thanks for your quick responses!
