I work all day with genealogy, and have to enter a lot of the same information for each person. Is there a way I can instruct my computer to use a specific key for entering the same phrase each time I hit it? And can you tell someone who is not a geek how to do it?

Thanks for your input. I went to the site and downloaded the software, but it's really just to program tasks. I am doing the genealogy for an entire town in Germany and have to keep entering the name of the place of birth, the repository for the source, the same source, etc for each person and it's always the same. I would like to be able to hit perhaps, control + something and have it enter the town. And maybe control + another key to enter the source. Have any other ideas?

"Texter" at Lifehacker

I haven't used this myself, but if I ever have the need this is what I'll be using.
It's has an installer available or just the .exe for portable use. Source code also available (autohotkey script).

Dear gueb, Thank you so much! the letter 'g' and hitting the spacebar, now enters "Geislingen, Zollernalbkreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany"!!! You have just helped a 65 year old grandmother of 10 1/3. And you have most assuredly added a few years to my laptop. This is a great and easy to use program. Thank you, Louise

Texter is definitely the best choice... I use it daily.

lightbrigade43, Glad I could help. I see it is definitely saving you a lot of typing.

The Geek, I knew someone here would be using it.
