I was given a internal dvd burner, the burner has EIDE cables for internal connection. My computer has SATA cables, and I was wondering if, there is an adapter for EIDE to Sata? If no, is this burner anything more than a coaster to me, or can I rig up something externaly that will work?

Yes there are adapters to turn normal IDE to SATA. See pages like Newegg Search For: IDE to SATA. There are other sites too you can search for.
I haven't used any so I can't really recommend any specific one.
Also it seems odd you would just have SATA. The recent motherboards I've seen came with one IDE port too. Though I guess that could have changed.
