i need some guidance. I'm wanting to build a high-performance gaming machine....for around $1,000ish. Will that be sufficient? And can you suggest what i get?

The components are all outdated now.
Search http://newegg.com for the latest components using the HowTo as a guide.
Suggest you look at i7 Intel CPUs and compatible Asus motherboards.

Your choice however. Read ALL Pros and Cons concerning parts.
