http://www.discourse.org/faq/

After reading through the above faqs. link, many may need a browser update for the new site.

Posted in off topic for comments, suggestions.

Thanks Mike,
I think I had that before when I couldn't view one of your posts on IE8.

Never reinstalled it after XP reinstall.

Edit: Got it installed again. Not too comfortable with it but, no choice I guess if IE8 is not going to work.

I'm not upgrading from IE9 to IE10 until M$ works out the worst of the initial bugs (and I don't like FF, don't trust Google, and PM is too new for me to jump onto it) so you may lose me for a while if the new forum doesn't play well with IE9.

I'm wondering if modifying the 'user agent' string/setting in one's browser will help bypass the new site's browser requirements?

Was thinking that myself.

Great minds...etc.
That, or you've been drinking what I've been drinking.

I tried the Discourse trial site on the stock Android browser - works fine despite not being listed as supported.

I recall there is an easy way to do it in FF and PM. But a bit busy at the moment.

Chrome is easily changed (although it only spoofs IE up to IE9 - no setting for IE10) via developer tools. In IE8 and back you had to edit the registry. IE9 forward, FF & PM - I have no clue since I've never used them. There's also an extension for Chrome called "User-Agent Switcher for Chrome", but I haven't tried it. There's probably a FF equivalent of it as well. In Android, both the stock browser and Opera Mini (the two I use) allow setting user agent via advanced settings.

It involved editing a bit of script. No add-ons.

Would it not work by changing the string in about:config ?

Found the following which I thought interesting in the Discourse FAQ.

Can I be the same user on all Discourse forums?

We do offer a preliminary but functional global nickname registration. If you want to be consistently known as @kittenbunny99 across all Discourse instances, you can. You'll also get a user page here that optionally lists all your forum memberships.

For now, sign up on meta and that will globally reserve your nickname for later use.

@Xhi, Interesting, don't know how I missed that on the first read through. Anyway IE8 on all my machines, page for meta would not load. Tried Pale Moon and worked just fine.
Joe

Edit: Did you sign up?
