browser for vista?

hi all, was wondering what browser is safe to download? I have Internet explorer and avant browser screwed my computer up. someone on this forum did suggest opera as a browser, is this safe to download? Are there any others that are good as well. I want to be sure i get something safe. cheers!

No popular browser should screw up your system. And any answer you may receive is subjective, so try them all and pick one or more you like.
Avant, IE, Opera, Firefox, etc. are all 'safe', though some would argue to varying degrees.

Yes, definitely stick with a well known browser. It's also important to download it from a trusted source. When you can, get it from the developer's website. For Firefox, go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox and for Opera go to http://www.opera.com

When you say Avant messed up your system, I expect that you mean that the installation caused problems. For that problem, you can never really be safe from possible software conflicts or bad installs. To mitigate this issue, it would be best to use the most popular of browsers -- IE or FF. With tens of millions of people having installed the same browser, chances are higher that someone has already seen the issues you have and any conflicts have been resolved or documented.
