Booting from Second DVD Recorder in Windows 7

I have a built-in dvd player/recorder that will not record anymore. I bought an external dvd player/recorder for recording purposes which was cheaper than repairing the built-in dvd drive ($48 versus $249). I would like to know how to boot from the external dvd drive as my computer only recognizes the built-in dvd drive. There is not an option in my BIOS to set it to boot from the second dvd drive, only the first. My windows 7 will not boot from the built-in drive but boots fine from the external drive. How can I set my computer to boot from the second external DVD drive?

I am confused. You are asking how to boot from the external drive, whilst stating it boots fine from the external drive! Please clarify.
