how do you configure Bios to start from CD .I have a Dell lattitude D 610and it needs to be formatted and XP reloaded

To do a one time bootup from the CD, keep tapping the F12 key on bootup and select CD

Lighthouse Heres the story .I got this laptop from the mother of a friend who passed away reciently and its set up with an authentication password that no one knows . I t6ryeed F 12 but it just gos to password screen I planned to just dump all aqnd re3load . bUT HOW ???

Is it going to a bios password screen, or a Windows Logon password screen?

LIGHTHOUSE IM NOT SURE iTS A WHITE SCREEN NO MARKINGS ASKING FOR AUTHENTICATION PASSWORD.

irmalbert, I suggest that you get Dell to help you with this. I went to their website and used the model number to find this article on how to reset the BIOS password.

It would seem that you need the Service Tag number to get the information. If you login at dell.com with the service tag, it might show you the reset procedure. Or, they might require that anyone who wants a BIOS reset to call in for verification. Either way, this is probably the most straightforward way to get rid of that password.
