From time to time (I would say about once every two weeks) when I start up my Vista PC, (Dell Inspiron 531), when Windows loads up a blue screen cromes up saying that Windows discovered an error and had to shut down. It tells me to check if any new software or hardware was installed correctly, but often I have not newly installed either. This has happened ever since I bought my new PC a few months ago, so I thought I'd ask on a forum before sending it back ^^ to see if it can be fixed.
When I restart the computer, a small "Windows has discovered an error" window pops up, and says that it will check online for solutions next time I am online, but it doesn't. In the Details section of this box if says the following:
"Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 81DE8671
BCP3: 83083B28
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini040408-01.dmp
C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-46379-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2F1A.tmp.version.txt"

I cannot find any of those files on my C:/ so I am a bit stuck. I am new here and it would be great if anyone could offer me some help, thank ou very much!

My money is on a duff stick of RAM. Download the Memtest86+ .iso and burn it to disk. Boot from that disk (you may have to change your BIOS settings to boot from CD) and let it run a scan.

Also while you are in the BIOS check you RAM voltage some types of RAM (like OCZ) require 2V to work properly and the default is 1.8V on most motherboards. What make of RAM do you have?

EDIT: Scrap the second part, I spotted it is a DELL so unless you have upgraded your RAM that shouldn't be a problem.

that's what i think too, it's probably the memory. windows vista has a memory diagnostic tool, you could try that as an alternative to jonhill987's suggestion. you can type it in the 'Start Search' box.

Can I burn that .iso straight onto a disc or do I need a mounting program such as Alcohol 120%?

Thanks.

Okay I have ran the memory diagnostic tool (although I missed the feedback it gives when it restarts? Does it give feedback? Thanks for your help, I will report back if I get another blue screen!

Thanks again!

You burn that memtest86+ .iso to a disk with whatever software you normal use (Nero or whatever) you then boot from it.

Well a day later it seems to be going good thank you. Before when I said that the windows error never searched online for the problem, it did it yesterday after my computed rebooted from memory diagnostic tool. The error suggested that it was Mcaffee that was causing the problem (the pre installed AV software for DELLs!). I would advise all people on DELLs to delete Mcaffee if they have the same error, thanks!
