I have only had my laptop with Business Vista installed on it a short time. I always "logged off" and "shut down computer" before turning it off. Now, when I turn it on a message at the bottom of the screen says "resuming windows" and the screen goes blank. I have tried every button, but nothing brings up a screen. I tried control, alt, delete, but nothing. I tried to interrupt the "start up" with F8, but it does the same thing.

Help

jjohnson4326, the message "Resuming Windows" means that the system is resuming from hibernation. Hibernation saves the state of the machine, then powers it off. However, it is not a shutdown. Since your screen doesn't come back, there may be some problem with drivers or software on your system that don't agree with hibernation.

Let the system resume up to Windows until the hard drive light is not blinking constantly. Even though there is no display, Windows is probably running and we can try to shut it down without a display. Using the Windows key on the keyboard, press Win+D, then press Alt+F4. This should initiate a shutdown, the hard drive light should start blinking and the system should power off. If it works, the next power on will be a cold boot and not a resume from hibernation.

You could also press and release the power button which should also start a shutdown. Finally, if none of this works, you will have to press and hold the power button to power off the system. You could lose unsaved data, but you will be able to cold boot. See this KB article from Microsoft for more troubleshooting tips:
