Updating the machine Bios will have no effect on your already formated hard drive.

Just ENSURE you Follow and Understand Asus Directions for performing the Bios Update.

If you don't understand the procedure thoroughly, then best to wait until you feel confident about the issue.

I tend to agree with Xhi, but any Mobo that's 1-2 yrs old the owner should at least go to the mobo website and read what the updates consist of. If your not having a problem then there is no need for updating the BIOS. Some updates are for various hardware items and if you don't have that hardware then it was good information. Most builds will have an "Important Notice Sheet" telling you to update all drivers and possibly the BIOS from the mfg website. This is common as Rick mentioned he has had several updates.
The one thing missing is no one asked the OP why he wanted or thought he needed to update his BIOS.

Also read the BIOS release notes for the different version updates later than what you have. You may find that you don't need to update it anyway.
