my roommate got xp put on his vista laptop while we were overseas. im not sure who did it or what they did but they totally messed it up and i was unable to load windows vista back on it. I thought i could put windows 7 on it because it is compatable with it. i decided to go with a clean install as apposed to the custom because i thought it would be much less hassle so i formated his HD. I placed the windows 7 startup disc into the computer and started install but it says that necessary files are missing. I then attempted to install windows vista again thinking i could restore the files, however now with the windows vista disc in it says that bootmgr is missing. I downloaded the bootmgr repair tool from this site and tried it with no luck. How do i get back the necessary files? when i formated the Hd did it erase all the necessary windows files? any help would be much appreciated it.
