Hello,

I would like to ask you which brand is an excellent brand for Portable External Hard Disk Drive?
Is it Seagate or Western Drive? Which one do you use and are you satisfied?

Thank You,
Ara

For me, Western Digital.

I just recently retired a 160 GB Western Digital external HDD I've had for over ten years (forget exactly when I got it). It was still working just fine but was starting to creak and groan (a lot like me).

I bought a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex USB 1tb drive in July 26, 2012 for $99.95 at Wal Mart and it's working great.
Supports USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 for PC & Mac.
I've always had good luck with Seagate drives.

I have had them both and have had no trouble with either.

I think we is talking long term. LF made her point, my 3 WD externals are 7, 6, and 3, years old. They run 24/7, and are as good as new.
Also have a 20+ year old Panasonic. Works great.

The best one I have is a 2.5" Fujitsu. I have a dozen others that work OK, only a Seagate just died. But that Fujitsu has been all over the world getting beat up in my luggage and never budged.

I would say DON'T buy Maxtor, Hitachi, or Seagate. They do tend to fail. Especially the first two.

They al tend to die...eventually. I've had two Seagates and two WDs die. The only Maxtor I ever had lasted seven years and was retired.

My Maxtor and 2 Hitachis still work after 4/5 years. The Maxtor is a little loud, but that's all.

The most reliable HD system is to have two of them; both holding the same data.

I like three HDDs backing up a single HDD; two on site, one off. In addition, I have a Carbonite account backing up my desktop between back ups. Call me paranoid but my data is precious to me.
