Hi - I hope someone can help here.

I have a Windows XP pro PC.
The Autorun/AutoPlay feature stopped working on both the CD and USB stick.

After trying several fixes, i have managed to get the autorun feature working - when I insert a USB drive into the PC it now asks me what I want to do.

The problem is -

When I insert a CD into the drive (for instance a printer driver CD), a folder pops up on my screen - can see the files (including the autorun.inf file)
If I click on the file - it opens a notepad and does not run the file.

I have tried the MS Autorun Repair facility, this did not find any problems.

I have checked the registry - I can not find the incorrectly set key.
I am unable to use system restore to restore to an earlier time as the restore points are not there (any earlier than today)
I have run a full system scan for malware and viruses (using malwarebytes and Spybot)

It probably is a registry key somewhere - but if anyone point me in the correct direction, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Paul

It is probably a better idea to have it not working. It is commonly used to input nasties into your system.

Thanks for the advice, but I would still appreciate it if someone could point out how to fix it.
