Wow - do I have a major excel puzzel. I need to be able to automatically highlight the first line ONLY in a group of cells. For example - If I have sorted the data by column A (which is number coded) then I would like to automatically highlight ONLY the first row in the group that had the #1 in the field and ONLY highlight the first line in the group that had the #2 in the field. I would also like each group to automatically put a box around each group but I figure one step at a time. Please Help - manual takes FOREVER!

automatic highlighting only 1st line in each group of lines in excel

I'll assume you know your way around Conditional Formatting (if that's not the case please come back and I'll step you through it).
The conditional rule would be
=A$2<>A$1
and it would apply to cells $A$2:$G$200 (you'd adjust this to the width and length of your table but it MUST start in A2 to match the conditional rule)
