I have been wanting to ditch my HDD for a 512GB SSD. The 512GB SSD retails around $400 to $600. I was wondering if I wait for a coupla more months, whether I could get a new laptop itself with 512GB SSD under $1000.

Any chance of that happening ? Or is it a pipe-dream?

Ok Rick. I will stretch it a bit. Under 1200 bucks in six months ? And I don't want optical drive.

A good [ Configure To Order ] Laptop now cost around $2000 so my guess will be two years. :(

Personally, I'd never buy anything that wasn't Configure To Order in the OEM products.

It does and folks in the Far East who assemble the "junk" together for $2.00 an hour don't get no break either. :( :(

Sad state of affairs.

The wages to produce are too low on one end and the selling price is too high at the other end of the supply chain.

Wonder where the money in the middle really goes ??

That's an easy answer for sure !!
