There is no need to either hack or pay for anti-virus protection. There are many good free ones of which the one Lighthouse recommends is a very good one. It is one I use on most of my computers. I have eight around the house. I also have Avast free on one computer since many of my associates recommend it and I like to be able to help them with it. I have never had a virus problem since 1987.

And nor will your valued machine if you do so...

When will the world realise this foolhardy activity?

In my opinion Norton is crap, and I don't link the full Internet Security Suites, a good antivirus + Windows Firewall + some common sense is all you need. Go for Microsoft Security Essentials as a free alternative, and for ESET NOD 32 Antivirus for a paid option (but not the ESET Smart Security).

And yeah, we don't like pirating things, so be careful with that.

Get Ms Security Essentials constant protection, and scan with Superantispyware and Malwarebytes on a regular basis and you should be covered. Also it will probably be a good precaution to have WOT (Web of Trust) site advisor on your browser which warns you of bad sites.

MSE: http://windows.microsoft.com/e.....s-download

SAS: http://www.superantispyware.com/ (Choose free version)

MB: http://www.malwarebytes.org/pr.....ytes_free/ (Choose free version)

WOT: http://www.mywot.com/

I know that direct links are not permitted, but this is a Microsoft link nevertheless:

Microsoft Security Essentials 64-bit English

EDIT: Removed the link, I had a better idea:

http://ninite.com/

Select Essentials (and any other software you want) and go all down to "Get Installer".

The link is safe, the option is to download the version for your particular system, select, then download
