ActiveX is widely known for it's use in Internet Explorer to allow the use of plugins in web pages.
It has in the past been criticized for allowing total control of the computer when an ActiveX control is installed.
In Windows Vista Internet Explorer has Protected Mode that limits the access ActiveX controls have to the computer.
Also many popular plugins like Flash, Java and Quicktime all use it in their plugins for Internet Explorer.
I think it was a mistake for The Geek to recommend disabling something related to ActiveX without a proper explanation of what it's for.
I'm going to let The Geek know that so the article can be updated.
