hi, i have a asus moboard m2n-e sli. i added another stick of memory, when i powered up i got 1 long and 2 short beeps as well as a slight burning smell. i removed the new memory and saw that it was not seated properly. when i restarted i still had the beeps. i swaped video cards, and memory sticks and cleared the cmos. no luck!

my question: do you think i fried the memory stickes that were already there and/or the motherboard?
thank you...

3 beeps would indicate memory failure

Oops, I was thinking in old money. 1 long and 2 short is video card (normally) and as you've changed it, I would think m/b

No, but make sure it supports the same drive type (IDE, SATA whatever)

Look at ASUS's online documentation of your motherboard - usually, there'll be a section specifically addressing beep codes like the ones you're getting.
