I decided to read my camera manual from cover to cover to try and solve it.I realised that I had not put the CD that I got with the camera into the computer!! I did this and Hey Presto,my videos play on everything!!! That will teach me! I lost track of your thread. You did use the tool correctly. What the data from MediaInfo tells us is that these files that your camera takes are encoded with XviD. You can get the decoder here: <a href="http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm</a> It's called "Koepi's XviD Codec" and it's at v1.1.3. Download the executable there and run it to install the XviD handler on your system. This will allow media players to decode the video stream. Try Windows Media Player first. I'm not sure if it will fix playback in the other players, but go ahead and try because it can't hurt. If you still have questions about what to do, ask away. We are here to help. If you install MediaInfo, you can right-click on an AVI file and select Media Info from the context menu. If you have MediaInfo running, choose File -> Open -> File, then find the video in the file browser and Open it. Use the menu to change the view to text, View -> Text. This model does not appear on the front page, and the link they have to a manual doesn't work. I did find a cached page on Google that has a description, but it did not specify the format for video storage. Gspot is a program I would only recommend to experts. Then you can uninstall them in Control panel > Programs > uninstall a program. Note, that I never had any problems of the kind that ScottW refers to, but I know he has had some cases of interference. So, uninstalling the packs may, or may not help. Some of the cameras use M-JPEG and others use MPEG-4, but they all store this video in an AVI container. So, which model do you have? Also, all of the ones I see at their site say the sound is recorded in WAV format. As in that other thread, none of this is surprising or problematic. Also, to summarize what we learned in that other thread, here are some instructions. * Uninstall all codec packs. Codec packs are bad, so if you have Vista Codec Pack, K-Lite (Mega) Codec Pack, or CCCP, uninstall them and reboot. * Use the Codec Tweak Tool because it fixes things. If you are worried about it causing problems, create a manual restore point first. * Try other players or converters that you might already have. Quicktime, Nero, Windows Movie Maker, and so on. My camera is Spanish(Werlisa) The files had AVI on them when I looked in "My Pictures).I did download the Tweak programme and it did say some files were broken and recommended removing them from the system.I did this but the videos,again,were playing just sound on W Media and just pictures on VLC.Real Player always says it needs a software update,has a look for it and then says it is unavailable. I was a bit worried so did System Restore.I am never sure if I have harmed anything! I need really simple instructions(idiot proof!)if possible.! What kind of camera do you have? Do you know what format the video files are in? I assume that you are talking about VLC, because I've never heard of a player called VCL. I have a feeling that your problem is similar to one we have seen before that is described in the following thread.
