I think some of the other posters were confused when you said you made the registry change with an application. The 2 .reg files from that article by The Geek are simple text files that modify only one key. The Enable .reg file should not have caused so much trouble as what you are seeing. I believe you say above that you ran the Disable .reg file, so that would undo the registry change.
