Sassa, hello. See this article at MozillaZine for a list of ways to change the behavior of the Awesome Bar:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=685365

There are some about:config settings that are easy to access and modify that might do what you wish. If that doesn't do it for you, take a look at this extension, Old Location Bar, which changes not only the appearance but also the behavior:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7637

Just as a test, you can try this extension:

From http://www.itbusiness.ca/IT/client/en/Home/News.asp?id=49016&PageMem=2

10. Kill the Awesome Bar ... sort of

If you're a retro kind of person, you can kill the Awesome Bar, and make it look and work somewhat like the old reliable address bar in earlier versions of Firefox. The oldbar add-on will make the Awesome Bar look like the Firefox 2 location bar. But the changes are only skin deep -- even when you use this add-on, the Awesome Bar will still use its algorithms to determine what sites it shows. It just won't show all the details.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227

I just installed Firefox 3 (I have Windows XP) and I opened it, went to my gmail inbox. Then when I pulled down the main history trail (instead of just typing the URL) I noticed that it automatically added pages from individual emails, and any recently added bookmarks. I don't like the pull-down to be full with all this extra crap - I like there to be just the 4-5 main pages I visit every day. It kinda gives me a headache. I went through all the options in the Tools menu, and there wasn't anything that matched what I was looking for, so I can't turn that option off. I was hoping someone else noticed that it does that and figured out a way to have it run the way it did in Firefox 2. I know this isn't the most pressing of issues but it still annoys the hell out of me. Thanks for your help -
