Yes windowing COD4 is possible. I looked long and hard to find this solution. I use it for patroling my clans knife only server. As im sure you can imagine there is much use for switching back and forth between gaming and the rcon console.

Anyway it is real simple:
1: Open the game
2: Open console(~) and type /r_fullscreen 0 (1 being the default in case u want to switch back)
3: In console type /vid_restart
4: Press Alt+Esc to be able to access your mouse outside of the game then just click the game window to change it back to gaming.

Now your game is windowed and you can control the window size by changing it in the games options menu.
If you/your friend are avid cod4 players you may want to check out this link it gives quite a few other console commands that will greatly improve your COD4 experience.

thats what i was thinking jd, but like you said, most dont come with that feature anymore... and im not sure how that would work for a first person shooter, because how would you look left and right if your cursor is going off screen. (im trying my best to explain it here...) i dont think it would work... i think thats the reason they dont give the function. because most people wouldnt use it, and it wouldnt work like you want it too. i would say it a impossible task without downloading anything, or entering some registry hacks or something...

It sounds like you don't want the game to run at 800x600 resolution but rather you want the game to run in windowed mode where the game appears in a window on the desktop.
I'm not sure how you would do it in that game though.
For some reason many of the newer games seem to be without the windowed mode option.

hey aleeve... you said "Is there a way to make the game always open at about 800 x 600 res?"... you say "always" like he does it everytime he opens the game, and hes getting tierd of doing it manualy... if he has done it before manualy, how did he do it... mayby that will play a factor (or maby im just reading into this too much...)

all that does is make the window smaller, and it puts a black layer bettween you and the desktop... so no... that doesnt work scott... its like fullscreen, but smaller... (atleast for the game i tested the idea on, which should have the same affect on call of duty 4)

i would think it depends on the game, because wouldnt the setting have to be made in the game? that or you would have to "reprogram" the game, and go into the software... which i have no idea how to do...

sorry, i dont "THINK" it is possible... but i dont know, mabey it is...

Well, my friend wants to be able to have a game that he plays in a smaller window so that he can still see the hotbars on the bottom of his screen that tell him his core-temp etc
Is there a way to make the game always open at about 800 x 600 res?
