TheBends, sorry for the sarcasm in my previous post. It was not appropriate for me to unload on a new member and I apologize.

As for finding some drivers, it looks like you have mostly stayed at HP's website downloading their sp##### packages. Since that did not work, it's time to look elsewhere. The next best place is directly from the chip manufacturer's website. Try Broadcom, Nvidia, and so on. The last resort is to look on those sites where folks gather up and share drivers that may or may not work.

http://www.driverguide.com/
http://www.xp-drivers.com/
http://www.driversplanet.com/
and so on.

First of all I don't tend to practice taking person's comments personal - your feelings have nothing to do with me. Second, I am not surprised that people are assuming I intentionally had planned to fail before taking on this project, perhaps you speak from a platform of more experience - where you have been in my position. I had thought that I had collected all the drivers appropriate to run XP on an Hp Pavillion Vista notebook. I did not "post on a forum asking where are the drivers (that don't exist)?" as my "Hail Mary". I actually researched the xp driver links through friends who have technical knowledge regarding my project, as well as the computer manufacturer directly. I can obtain the puters mobo skews, and OEM manufacturer etc... not a problem.

I will share that I would rather suffer (for my own personal reasons), a wicked death, rather than utilize Vista - on any machine I currently operate. I am not interested in a debate on why Vista is this and that, and the same for XP. I am a nub to (How to Geek)this forum, any advice as to how to directly attack this project, is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
The Bends.

I think Rick (raphoenix) put forth a positive message: plan ahead to avoid headaches. This advice is as old as the hills. My Dad had a "plan ahead" poster in his office when I was just a tadpole.

Here is a good plan: find all the XP drivers that will be needed before installing XP. If some of them don't exist, don't bother switching to XP.

Here is a bad plan: (1) install XP, (2) go looking for drivers, and (3) if some of the drivers don't exist, post on a forum asking "where are the drivers (that don't exist)?"

Touall and TheBends,

Welcome to HTG.

My response was a bit harsh but made for everyone.

I just wanted to emphasis that converting an OEM Machine to another O/S can be extremely hard and takes plenty of prior planning before jumping into "High Water" so to speak.

As I said in my earlier post, I meant nothing personal at all toward (TheBends).

I did write the word "YOU" too many times in my post and (DO APOLOGIZE) for the inference.

If you fellows would like to come back and have a "Personal Walk Through" on the project, I or any of the others members will be more than glad to handle a "Personal Thread" on your particular machines.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Bend Mine is HP DV2913cl (DV2000 series)

I have the same problem. I Formated and installed SP2 with the driver problems also. I didn't spend the same amount of time as you but failed also.

I came here looking around, saw your post and the responses.... Had to join and reply.

I probably will never get any help after this but If a person can't respond with answers or with something positive then don't post a reply!!!

Looks like you went thru a LOT of work and had exhausted your own efforts BEFORE posting! I don't know if they ever produced the proper XP drivers for our HP's but don't give up!!! It might require changing hardware it some which use XP drivers; I hope not.

Good luck with your efforts!!!

lol My webcam worked but NO network...

P.S. raphoenix

If someone doesn't know as much as others they ask for help. I'm guessing that NO one produced XP drivers for this laptops hardware.

If there aren't ANY drivers to be had then no amount of prep will help. Loss of time maybe; which none of have.

Please take no offense...

TheBends,

The Reasons For Failure Are:

1. You Do Not Know the Skew of the Mother Board in Your Machine.
2. You Do Not Know the OEM Manufacturer of the Mother Board in Your Machine.
3. You Do Not Know What Chipset is on the Mother Board of Your Machine.
4. You Did Not Make a Slipstream XP Installation CD with the Chipset Drivers Included.
5. You Do Know Exactly What Components are on the Mother Board on Your Machine.
6. You Did Not Study the How-Tos on O/S Conversions to Your Machine.

In NO Way Am I Disparaging You Personally BUT Merely Trying to Convey the Fact To All That Poor Prior Planing of Projects Will Always End in Project Failures.

The Information You Need Is Available But May Take Hard Work To Obtain.

I Respectfully Suggest That You Start Your Project Over Again From Scratch With A Good Plan.

Kindest Regards,
Rick P.

Over my head on this one... I have combed the forums thoroughly, and have tried several drivers from nvidia and HP - without resolve. Formatted an HP Pavillion dv2000 VISTA laptop with XP Professional SP2. Besides network issues, I have also gotten "Other Devices" which I am unable to find drivers for online:
1.) Broadcom BCM4310 USB Controller
2.) nVIDIA MCP67 - Lan Controller PHY: Marvell 88EC031
