Aleeve,

1394A Net Adapter #2 is a Fire Wire connection.

Delete that connection.

Does the machine have the wireless card plugged in ??
Probably not now; just asking.

The Intel Pro 100 Lan requires a driver.

Give me a while to look up the specs on your Dell Latitude D505.

Need your Router make and model number.

In Network Connections, it says that both Internet Connection and Local Area Network COnnection are both connected
and it's showing a speed and duration!

I know this laptop works with wireless however,
But I don't know about wired - surely it should!
Sorry, I found out last night it HAD been used with the internet - it's a work laptop, using the workplace's wireless

In Device Manager
in Network Adapters:

1394 Net Adapter #2
Dell Wireless WLAn 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI Card
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

It's a Dell Latitude D505

The connection is definetely there, because 1) the lights where the cable is plagged in are on (one orange and one green)
and 2) it is working on my laptop that I am on now!

This is baffling to me - I don't understand why it is not working!

If anyone's there
I have the other laptop right in front of me, and I'm trying the wizard...

Which should I do -

Choose from a list of Internet servuce providers (ISPs)

Set up my connection manually

Use the CD I got from an ISP

Don't install ANY Broad Band software as it will just mess up the machine.

Post back if you have more trouble and we will go from there.

ESSID?

Dell, err cannot remember right now :S
that basic one that everybody seems to have
pretty old?

is there a standard way of doing this on xp?
im confused as to why it does not connect automatically
I could always install broadband software, but seems silly when it connects automatically on my laptop - does that only work for vista?

<Shifty grin because probably asking a very simple question>

Ok, well, as the family computer is down at the moment, it is only my laptop that has internet, and I don't wnat everyone on it.
So
We have another XP laptop, but every time I try to plug in the internet (wired - RJ45) nothing happens.
Now when I simply plug the cable into my own laptop it works fine (although I have Vista)

I have an ethernet switch to have more than one broadband connection, which I am CERTAIN works
So what do I have to do to have the internet connection on the XP laptop?
