scanning of removable hard drives has to be done manually,so i presume. There are some though which are already equiped with their own anti-virus programmes.I would recommend for avast anti virus.IT scans disks thoroughly though you will have to do it manually!Apart from that, dunno about any programm which is able to scan drives automatically after tehm being connected to the system....

lol.Mine worked with both vista and xp before the virus infection. The problem is that it had been infecten by a Trojan(.vbs).The Trojan affected also my system and each and every other drive attached to it.Funny enough is that i initially thought that someone was hacking into my system and resetting everything coz as i was analyzing the remnants of the Trojan log files saved as .vbs,i noticed that it used the 'set' commant prompt which adjusts and changes features in someones sytem!Furthermore, the stick had been around for a while,so i guessed that maybe its time was up!By the way i think i will maybe start a thread on how ''set'' command prompt is used and its aftermath so that i can learn more....

mfuasi. I wish you hadn't thrown it away. I've been trying for ages to get hold of some of these sticks. To try and find out why they don't work with Vista.

Rick P,
i advocate for what u are saying about booting from the ROM Drive in the case booting from the HardDrive fails, but SarahJames's problem was that her desktop's first booting option was seemingly the ROM Drive, thats why i was suggesting for reset to Floppy,HDD the to ROMDRive so as for the computer to boot later from the HDD as i presumed that she doesnt have a FLoppyDrive.Anyways her problem is already solved (just read her thread!)so i guess we all learnt something! As for my thread...it was ended a long time ago as i resigned to throwing away the USB stick and replacing with the another one!!!!

And I did it again - completely hijacked someone elses thread! Sorry about that. I'll try and set a better example in the future:)

mfuasi,

If a machine is having problems Booting from the HD, one will not be able to use a Boot CD to fix the problem the way you have the boot order set.

Boot order should be:

1. Floppy Drive
2. CD/DVD Rom Drive
3. HD with O/S

In many computers, there will be a forth option to use network boot / awaken.

Also, on custom machines, there can be a Boot From USB Device Option.

Regards,

@ SarahJames,
theres no need for u to reset your CMOS battery!As far as am concerned,u can reset teh BIOS settings by pressing F2 at start up.Furthermore,depending on your computer,u will be instructed on which button to press down at start up so as to access teh BIOS setup!after entering BIOS setup,go to BOOT option and reset the Boot settings Configurations as follows ;
1.Floppy Drive
2.HDD
3.CD/DVD
i think that is the general follow-up to a default Bios Setup!

I wouldn't suggest that solution to a newbie.

This is just kind of a private chat between old timers "in the business" so to speak.

@ Lighthouse - oh yes I am using one and I just gave the default wired one away a couple of days ago (cleaning out for the planned move ...)

@ whs - I hope to find an easier way before I have to get to that, but we'll see :)

I registered at a Knoppix forum, but need to wait for the email I have to confirm. Maybe they can put me straight.

Now I really have to run - till later:)

Rick, I think Sarah is right to be a little careful. Removing the CMOS battery is a little iffy for someone who has never done that. But it would probably do the trick.
